The buttons down the front of the collared shirt are functional and the shorts are made with an elastic waist for maximum comfort! We would recommend ordering your child's normal size. If in-between sizes you can size up if your son normally needs more room in the hips/waist or you prefer a more oversized fit than you see on our model
